Wärtsilä has developed and delivered a mobile battery container solution that will enable inland waterway vessels to operate with zero emissions. The system enables the vessel to operate on full electric power alone, with no carbon emissions being generated. The company aims to realize 30 zero-emission shipping routes by 2030.

The technology group Wärtsilä has joined a consortium of key partners to form Zero Emission Services B.V. As part of its sustainability roadmap, Deutsche Post DHL Group aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to below 29 million tons by 2030 and net-zero by 2050. Ground transport accounts for 21 per cent of the Group’s total CO 2 e emissions. The full worldwide rollout will follow in 2022.
