Audi partnering with Climeworks on CO2 direct air capture and storage

The Swiss company Climeworks is building the world’s largest direct air capture (DAC) and storage facility for converting atmospheric CO 2 to rock in Iceland. The particularly high geothermal energy means that the Earth’s heat can be converted to electricity cost-effectively and virtually CO 2 neutrally.

MAN Diesel & Turbo Schweiz AG has signed a cooperation agreement with ABB Switzerland for the development, production and commercialization of a three-way energy-storage system. The new Electro-Thermal Energy Storage system (ETES) stores large-scale electricity, heat and cold for distribution to consumers.

Volkswagen’s first two production battery-electric vehicles debut at Frankfurt

In doing so the power electronics convert the direct current (DC) stored in the battery into alternating current (AC) and use this to drive the motor. Via a DC/DC converter it also supplies the vehicle’s circuitry with voltage of 12 V. In generator mode, meanwhile, the alternating current is rectified for charging the battery.
