HFCs are considered to be super pollutants because they trap heat in the atmosphere thousands of times more effectively than carbon dioxide, the most prevalent greenhouse gas. California is required to reduce HFC emissions 40% below 2013 levels by 2030 under Senate Bill 1383. This equipment often leaks refrigerants over time.
