The El Niño climate pattern, which weakens tradewinds, definitely had a hand in that. In the West North Central states – Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota – it dropped by 8%. Wind generation from August through December, however, was 2.4% higher than during the same period in 2022.
