Six trucking firms operating in the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach are deploying trucks powered by Cummins Westport (CWI) near-zero ISX12N engines ( earlier post ), and fueled with Clean Energy Fuels Corp.’s The Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach provided funding for two additional near-zero trucks.

City of Los Angeles Harbor Department (LAHD), Port of Los Angeles received $279,750 to replace four older Tier 2 diesel engines on two tugboats operating in San Pedro Bay, with cleaner Tier 4 engines. The project will also replace one diesel sweeper at the Port of Los Angeles with two cleaner Tier 4 engines.

on Adopt-a-Port, an initiative that provides truck operators serving the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach with cleaner, carbon-negative renewable natural gas (RNG) to reduce emissions. For its part, Chevron will provide funding for Adopt-a-Port and supply RNG to Clean Energy stations near the ports.

The California Air Resources Board (ARB) has fined two shipping companies for failing to switch from bunker fuel to cleaner, low-sulfur fuel when sailing within 24 miles of the California coast, as required by a state law adopted in 2008.
