GE Transportation Unveils New Evolution Series Locomotive; 17% Reduction in Fuel Consumption, 70% Reduction in Emissions

The new model, which is part of GE’s ecomagination program, delivers a cleaner, faster, safer and more reliable alternative to the aging North American fleet of DC-powered locomotives. Evolution Series Locomotives currently are operating in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, China, Mongolia, Australia, Kazakhstan and Egypt.

Subsidies that encourage wasteful consumption of fossil fuels jumped to over $400 billion. The largest increase in oil production comes from Iraq, followed by Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Kazakhstan and Canada. The number of people without access to electricity remained unacceptably high at 1.3 billion, around 20% of the world’s population.
