Using national emissions and air quality data, the Urban Air Toxics Report shows the substantial progress that has been made to reduce air toxics across the country since the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990. million tons per year of HAPs from mobile sources, which represents a 50% reduction in mobile source HAP emissions.

Awardees represent the top one to two percent of environmentally-responsible SmartWay carriers that conduct freight operations with lower emissions and less energy. SmartWay also contributes to cleaner air and healthier citizens by cutting emissions that help produce smog, including fine particulate matter and nitrogen oxides.

In 2007, GE and BP formed a global alliance to jointly develop and deploy technology for at least five IGCC power plants that could significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions from electricity generation. The Hydrogen Energy California County project would be the first power plant built under that alliance.

EPA will also expand energy conservation and efficiency programs and continue to develop solutions for reducing GHG emissions from large stationary sources like power plants. EPA will finalize its mobile source GHG rules under the Clean Air Act, and “ provide a framework for continued improvements in that sector.” ( Earlier post. ).

Tell CARB you want plug-in vehicles in the Zero Emission Vehicle mandate. A year ago Ford nabbed a significant endorsement from the Sierra Club for its limited edition Mercury Mariner hybrid (29/35 mpg - gasoline only) and a promise of 250,000 hybrids by 2010. Cars have gotten cleaner, but there are more of them.
