The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is proposing to make it easier for manufacturers to gain approval to sell fuel conversion systems. The proposed rule would cover conversions of light-duty vehicles and heavy-duty highway vehicles and engines, and would apply to all clean alternative fuels.

EcoDual , LLC, a provider of dual fuel natural gas conversion systems for heavy-duty diesel trucks, has achieved US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) compliance for installing its systems on 2004 to 2009 Cummins ISX engines. Eligible diesel vehicles, engines and equipment may include drayage trucks; marine engines; locomotives and non-road engines; and equipment or vehicles used in the handling of cargo at a marine or inland water port. Verified/Certified Engine Upgrades: up to 40% of the cost (labor and equipment) of eligible engine upgrades.

Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas) announced it will be working together with Sierra Northern Railway, Gas Technology Institute (GTI), and other technical experts to develop and test a zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell engine for a switcher locomotive.
