Exceeding its initial program targets, the plug-in 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid ( earlier post ) has earned an electric-mode fuel economy rating of 84 miles-per-gallon-equivalent (MPGe) from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This is a move that GM, Ford and whatever’s left of Chrysler should have made, but it’s too creative, too bold and too American for any of those legacy car companies to pull off in the 21st century. You might as well call most of the cars they’re selling “future clunkers.&# Really Ford? Are you kidding me?

We’re showing 100 percent charge and a range of 475km. Except there’s no wireless phone charging, annoyingly. I forget to remind them we’re not on solar so the emissions have just moved from the tailpipe to the polluting power station. Porsche doesn’t really do ‘entry-level’, does it?

At least GM sent this nifty printed banner explaining all about the new J1772 industry standard recharging plug. They even had a real plug connected to their toy car on the exhibit hall. Ford and whatever it is they call Chrysler this week didn’t even bother to show up. I like the way the MiEV looks and feels.
