The Chicago Transit Board awarded a $32-million contract to Proterra for the purchase of 20 new, all-electric buses. In addition to lower emissions that benefit air quality, electric buses offer savings in fuel costs and maintenance costs. The new electric buses will give the CTA one of the largest electric bus fleets in the country.

The program will make cars available to Lyft drivers at affordable rates with insurance and maintenance included. Zipcar’s FastFleet technology has already been adopted through similar initiatives in Washington, DC, Chicago and Boston. According to the city’s projections, the integrated program could save Chicago hundreds of thousands of dollars in transportation costs over the next several years.

ComEd will replace end-of-life internal combustion vehicles with plug-in hybrid and fully electric vehicles, reducing fuel and maintenance costs and creating savings that will be passed on to customers. ComEd’s new fleet electrification plan calls for replacing all of its light duty vehicles with electrified vehicles (EVs and PHEVs) by 2030.

AMP Americas, LLC, a Chicago-based energy company focused on displacing liquid fuels with CNG, builds and owns CNG fueling stations for long-haul truck fleets and finances leases for CNG trucks. AMP operates the largest US renewable natural-gas plant that produces fuel from cow manure.
