Under California’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS), crude oil producers may generate credits for oil that has been produced using innovative methods and delivered to California refineries for processing. Seneca Resource Corporation (Seneca) has applied for LCFS credits for producing crude oil using solar generated electricity.

The US Department of the Interior has approved the 1,000 MW Blythe Solar Power Project, the largest solar energy project yet to be built on US public lands. The Blythe Solar Power Project uses parabolic trough technology in which rows of parabolic mirrors focus solar energy on collector tubes.

At that rate, the cost to operate an electric vehicle is 2 cents per mile. The first eye-opener for large scale solar was the Austin Energy PPA last year that was priced at 5 cents. Consider the venerable oil drilling donkey, which cycles once every 7 or 8 seconds. Hydropower in Seattle will push you around for the same price.
