Striking thing, this electric SUV-cum-wagon. If you want to keep the tyre mobility kit and power cable bags in the boot, this also eats into space. I bet the brakes would take a pasting, and those 21-inch Michelin Pilot Sport 4s aren’t going to be cheap to replace after a few track sessions. No frunk on offer, either.
None of this quartet is cheap, but all are towards the value end of the EV market. It’s an unbranded system designed in-house by Tesla, but it’s a quality bit of audio kit. Against mid-sized SUVs from Hyundai and Kia the Model Y makes more sense. Sure, there are cheaper options. And a final word on sound systems.
Overview FIRST times can be awkward but thankfully, Toyota’s first electric vehicle – the new bZ4X SUV – comes across as a pretty confident first go at the whole EV thing. It isn’t cheap, though – check the Toyota website to see the costs for your own circumstances.

You know, the small SUV we panned at its July 2021 launch for its “poor value proposition” Our review , in short, suggested you’d be almost out of your mind to buy one. It’s cramped and dark in the rear seats too, but really, many small SUV buyers never use the second row anyway. Pretty generous.
We’ll limit our top five to under $100,000 – no small sum, but these days families have had to make peace with combustion SUVs, dual-cab utes and people movers costing $60,000 and upwards. Not cheap, but there still feels like decent value here. Budget is, of course, a huge factor.
A mid-spec EV9 Earth is around $120,000 in the traffic, while the entry-level Air is a comparatively cheap $107,000. The Air’s standard kit’s hardly wanting. BMW or Benz wouldn’t let one of its large SUVs get near the market without far higher quality-feeling hand-grabbers. When are you going to use it?
