Free Juice Bar explicitly sells charge stations to offer free power. Virtually everyone who enters this parking lot for the foreseeable future will likely pass two empty spots, reserved for apparently non-existent electric vehicles. The question isn't whether drivers of plug-in cars deserve free power. Obviously not.

But it’s not cheap; it’s not elegant; and Lexus’ tech foibles carry over from the standard RX and other models. Volvo’s system will automatically kick in the gas engine when the accelerator is mashed to the floor, but Lexus doesn’t engage the gas engine in EV only mode unless the juice runs out.

Mercedes said the E 53 Hybrid can stay in electric-only mode until the juice is out with exceptions that range from environmental conditions such as battery or ambient temperature, or depending how much power is being called upon. It was happy to do so to a point.
