Optiq models are also compatible with DC fast charging, which Caddilac said can add “up to 79 miles of range in about 10 minutes.” While that’s still not cheap for a modestly sized crossover, this is supposed to be an EV from a luxury nameplate and one the brand said has achieved class-leading interior space (second row and cargo).

Inster seats are spongey soft, but doors are eco cheap feeling in places. I suppose a rear rider could go business class feet-up if they fancy, but more appealingly, you could squeeze some sort of mattress in, keep the climate on all night and you’ve got a hard-topped mini camper van to rival any two-man tent. seconds / 10.6

There’s a premium for looking stylish – in the metal the #1’s rear end’s a bit gawky (like a Mercedes EQB), while the sleeker coupe-like rear #3 is the prettier of the pair, offering some Benz A-Class vibes. Maximum power is 150kW using a DC public charger, with the charge time quoted as 30 minutes to go from 10-80 per cent of charge.

Charging speed wasn’t revealed, but quoted time to go from 10-80 per cent battery using a public DC fast charger was 31 minutes. Space-wise there’s a 460L boot (Kia claims largest in class here), plus a 25L frunk. How are the EV3’s design and goodies? Kia’s Niro EV is only marginally larger at 475L.

Mercedes-Benz’s new EQE is the luxury brand’s all-electric E-Class alternative. As Benz’s fleet transitions to full electrification (2030 is the current target), the stalwart E-Class as we know it is on borrowed time. The high voltage battery gets a separate and class-leading ten-year, 250,000km warranty.
