The first step was the hybrid, which proved to the world that electric power can reduce gas consumption. Electricity costs are relatively inexpensive.

Furthermore, changing the battery pack on say a Toyota Prius often costs a fortune, at least in most European countries, so such cars better be VERY cheap, but they’re not. In most conversions cost is about the same because of needless weight.
