Coulomb Technologies unveiled San Francisco's first ChargePoint America charge stations yesterday in a Priority Parking lot along the Embarcadero. The charge stations and installations were paid for with federal stimulus and California Energy Commission grants won by Coulomb. Nissan LEAF buyers are excluded. But for whom?

We chatted while he finished charging his LEAF at the recently installed Quick Charger at the new Market Street Whole Foods in San Francisco. Bill lives a good 60 miles from San Francisco, so he needs to get some juice to make his trip home after work. He had stopped to charge up for his commute home after work. And then some.

Electric Vehicle Service Equipment (EVSE) home wall units are priced at between about $1000 and $2500. All plug-in cars these days come with a 120-volt charge cord. Surprising to many, including I suspect Tesla Motors itself, they found that about half the charging of Roadsters at home in the U.S. Plus installation.

My dad has been looking at electric chainsaws for a while but hadn’t pulled the trigger on one, and so being the good son I am (especially since he lets me send weird Chinese electric vehicles to his property), I decided to buy one for him. For those who need even more juice, you can, of course, just keep a spare battery around.
