After spending the past year and a half converting a Porsche 914 to an electric vehicle, I decided to expand my horizons by designing an open-source electric vehicle (EV) conversion kit for a commonly used car. There are already commercially available kits with excellent, detailed instructions for how to convert a vehicle.

Under the boot floor of diesel models there’s an inflatable weight/space-saving spare while the hybrid model gets a repair kit only. Open road country cruising is where this car feels at home with a serene and supremely comfortable and controlled on-road drive experience, even on gravel tracks it’s a really great drive.

Until recently, the four main modular toolkits (modularen Baukästen) of the Group were: the MQB (transverse, driven by the Volkswagen brand); the MLB (longitudinal, driven by the Audi brand); the MSB (standard drive, driven by Porsche); and the NSF (New Small Family). We want to be the first one to produce more than 1 million electric cars.

Here goes (in no particular order): Things That Went Well During the Conversion The 914 AC kit from Electro Automotive is a good one. The conversion car came from camp914.com This made the car much easier to drive (similar to an ICE vehicle). The critical parts needed to complete the car took eight months for delivery.

Car design has become increasingly uniform this past decade, so it’s refreshing to see something genuinely different. Spy the back end at the wrong angle and it could be the lovechild of a Porsche 993 and Ford AU Falcon. Funny looking thing, the Hyundai Ioniq 6. Maybe it doesn’t really matter. Distinctive. Challenging.
