Carmaker Nissan is to begin manufacturing batteries for electric cars at its Sunderland plant. Ltd along with the Renault-Nissan Alliance, today announced together with the governments of the United Kingdom and Portugal their plans to build two plants for the production of its advanced lithium-ion batteries in Europe.

Volkswagen opened orders for the ID.Buzz in the United Kingdom with a starting price of £57,115 ($67,744.10). VW customers that order the ID.Buzz now will get three consecutive service visits and MOT as standard, along with other offers when purchased through finance. MOT test certificates are required to drive cars in the UK.

Japanese carmaker Nissan and leading car rental firm, Europcar are forming a partnership to market electric vehicles by 2010. Electric vehicles will be rolled out in France, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand and will be subsequently extended to other countries, as part of the alliance.
