Study Finds That Higher Ethanol Blends Result in Improved Energy Efficiency in Flex-Fuel Engines, Partially Offsetting Reduced Energy Density of Fuel

Green Car Congress

A study of flex-fuel vehicles operating on different ethanol blends (E10, E20, E30, and E85) found that higher ethanol blend ratios provide better energy conversion within the engine. The research was funded in part by the Nebraska Corn Board and through the Hatch Act (University of Nebraska Agricultural Research Division).

BNL team devises new method to boost oil accumulation in plant leaves; implications for biofuel production

Green Car Congress

Researchers at DOE’s Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) have developed a new method to increase significantly the amount of oil accumulated in plant leaves, which could then serve as a source for biofuel production. This work provides a very promising platform for engineering oil production in a non-genetically modified way.
