The Midwest Regional Carbon Sequestration Partnership (MRCSP), led by Battelle, has completed its Phase II projects to evaluate storage of carbon dioxide in its nine-state region. The Phase II work helped identify both the opportunities and challenges for carbon sequestration and provided direction for future efforts.

The US Department of Energy (DOE) has selected 19 projects to enhance the capability to simulate, track, and evaluate the potential risks of carbon dioxide storage in geologic formations. Researchers will develop systems for tagging CO 2 with carbon-14 at atmospheric level (1 part per trillion) and measuring the carbon-14 CO 2 levels.

After successfully controlling growth of carbon nanotubes on individual carbon fibers, researchers accomplished the same on a type of carbon-fiber yarn and eventually on engineered textiles.
