Geologists at Columbia University’s Earth Institute and the US Geological Survey have mapped some 6,000 square miles of ultramafic rocks at or near the surface in the US that have the potential for sequestering more than 500 years of US CO 2 production. Combining rocks and carbon dioxide could provide an added benefit, as Krevor points out.
