Soot particles from oil and wood heating systems as well as road traffic can pollute the air in Europe on a much larger scale than previously assumed. Aerosol particles in the atmosphere affect global climate, human health and ecosystems. Equivalent black carbon (eBC) represented 10% of the total particulate matter (PM).
