The best part about activating the sport modes is the kick-your-butt sharp shifts of the transmission and the accompanying soundtrack – the active exhaust note fires off a satisfying thwack when the gears switch. Doing so is a bit tricky since the switch is a bit hidden, but once you locate it, you can go topless to your heart’s content.

An optional carbon-fiber spoiler added $950 and 19-inch copper wheels cost $2,186. Save for the trio of large exhaust outlets and the probably not necessary optional carbon-fiber spoiler, there's little of the "boy racer" styling of the Civic Type R. The exhaust note is fine, but unremarkable.
