Electrify America plans to invest $200 million in California Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) infrastructure and education programs over the next 30 months. Additionally, Electrify America will strive to ensure that 35% of the investment is in low-income and disadvantaged communities, as guided by California Air Resources Board (CARB).

CT&T makes low- and mid-speed, short-distance neighborhood electric vehicles that pass crash tests required for regular passenger cars. Among its first announced customers, back in December 2017, was Pepsi, which reserved 100 of the trucks and plans to use them in the California regions of Modesto and Sacramento. Many were covered in detail during a day of presentations and site visits for partners and media held this past August in Ontario, California.

There are 116,000 public charging ports in the country, according to the Energy Department — mostly lower-speed “Level 2” chargers that are heavily concentrated in California. Most EVs are hampered from driving long distances by the gap between charging stations and the time it takes to recharge their batteries, which have limited range.
