General Motors is sidestepping the loss of the electric vehicle tax credit on its vehicles and will still offer a big $7,500 discount on cars for customers. The Cadillac Lyriq and Chevrolet Blazer EV are losing the credit because of component qualifications, while all other EVs are temporarily losing eligibility.

We found that current factory lease offers on 22 different EV models dispel that myth with terms that pass the entire commercial clean vehicle Federal tax credit to the lessee, enabling the lessee to eventually own the vehicle for thousands of dollars less than paying cash upfront or taking out a loan. Lease-to-own savings: $15,366.

A study by researchers at the Institute of Transportation Studies, UC Davis finds that buyers of plug-in vehicles (PEVs) are substantially less satisfied with the dealer purchase experience than buyers of conventional vehicles—with the notable exception of Tesla buyers. In some cases, dealers outright discouraged PEV purchases.

Broadly, Navigant expects expansion in both the higher end of the market (thereby putting competitive pressure on Tesla Motors), as Audi, BMW, Cadillac, Mercedes, Saab, and Volvo introduce their first plug-in cars. More mainstream models will come from Kia, Mahindra, Škoda, and Volkswagen. Tesla Motors will have a bumpy year.
