Federal EV Tax Credit To accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), the US Government offers a federal EV tax credit of up to $7500 to anyone purchasing or leasing an electric car. Watch out for car dealers who use phrases like ‘we guarantee you can get you the full $7500 tax credit.’ Not listed.

ACE-EV X1 Transformer – Australian-based start-up plans a small range of affordable EVs focused on light commercial duties. $5 Alfa Romeo Tonale – the Italian brand finally has a rechargeable car in its ranks in the form of the Tonale PHEV compact SUV. Hailed as a huge win for auto manufacturers, car dealers, and consumers, the Clean Vehicle Credit (CVC) which is part of Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), at least for now is a confusing, hot mess for everyone involved. And with Ford, the Escape PHEV is classified as an SUV, but the Lincoln Corsair PHEV which is based on the Escape, is not.

BMW, Mercedes, and Volkswagen have all not shipped certain electric models to the US and Toyota is shipping the majority of their RAV4 Prime PHEVs to Europe and Asia. The base version of the Kia Niro, for example, is a hybrid but it also comes in PHEV and BEV version. That would still leave eight automakers without an EV.
