UK-based Electric Car Corporation Plc ( ECC ) has officially launched an all-electric version of the Citroën C1, the C1 ev’ie. The C1 ev’ie. The Citroën C1 ev’ie is assembled in the UK from the donor car. The 4-seater electric car offers a range of 60-70 miles when fully charged and a top speed of around 60 mph.

Axeon , Europe’s largest independent lithium-ion battery systems supplier, will develop a new high-capacity battery system for the electric Citroën C1 ev’ie, manufactured by the UK-based Electric Car Corporation ( earlier post ), with a view to supplying between 300 and 500 units in the 12 months following a successful trial.

During the serial media launch events for the Chevrolet Volt, GM provided more detail (subsequent to the completion of related patent work) on the novel drive architecture applied in their first extended range electric vehicle to enhance the efficiency of both the battery electric and extended-range driving modes.

A Honda Civic hybrid retrofitted with lead-carbon UltraBattery modules ( earlier post ) (provided by East Penn Manufacturing) has recorded more than 100,000 miles (161,000 km) of courier duty in the local area of Phoenix, AZ. Accordingly, UltraBattery packs from both Furakawa and East Penn have been characterized under a range of conditions.

Targets for a 20 kWh battery pack (larger than the 16 kWh packs in many plug-in hybrids and electric cars including the Vauxhall Ampera and Citroen C1 ev’ie) include: Reduction of battery pack weight by 10%-15%; Reduction of battery pack volume by 20-30%; and. Reduction in battery pack cost by 5%-10%.
