A Taycan’s DC charge port is behind the front left wheel, and Tesla chargers are designed for Teslas to back into position and recharge at their rear-mount ports. Arse-hole parking engaged: charging a Porsche Taycan RWD with a Tesla Supercharger. Monies paid, we’re heading north away from the Big Smoke.

Well you’re in luck, my friend, for not only are we getting the Ford Ranger and BYD Shark utes in PHEV form in a couple of months, GWM has locked in a plug-in version of its Cannon Alpha pickup for Australia, complete with 110km of EV range. Have you been waiting with bated breath for plug-in hybrid dual cabs?

And with a pice tag of $52,500 plus on-road costs it’s towards the lower end of the EV market, only slightly more than the GWM Ora and BYD Atto 3. It also doesn’t go particularly far on a charge, reinforcing its city friendliness. The 42kWh will take about 20 hours to charge from a home powerpoint.

And there are zero emissions if you recharge a scooter’s batteries from a sustainable source. It means you can travel, should you wish, a substantial distance between charges. Or, more likely, if your ‘last mile’ commutes are short, you may need only recharge once a week. E-scooters should be a force for good.

(As examples of SUV/MPV-style electric vehicle fuel efficiency, the 2016 Tesla Model X AWD - 75D is EPA-rated at 93 MPGe combined city/highway; the Model X AWD - P90D is EPA-rated at 89 MPGe; and the 2016 BYD e6 compact MPV is EPA-rated at 72 MPGe. Level 3 chargers and “superchargers” cannot be used to charge the Pacifica Hybrid.
