The strategy is centred around two main technology routes, as introduced in the first ArcelorMittal Europe climate action report published earlier this year: The use of hydrogen in DRI-EAF (Direct Reduced Iron - Electric Arc Furnace) and, also, the blast furnace. The expansion of its Smart Carbon route, also utilizing hydrogen.
The researchers think that it could be recycling smokestack carbon dioxide into clean-burning fuel within 5-10 years. Thirty percent of the energy in the US comes from natural gas. The chief advance is that the team has harnessed relatively large electrical currents with a device that should be possible to mass produce.
More than 150 new low carbon buses will join fleets throughout England as a result of an additional £15 million (US$23 million) of Government funding, Transport Minister Norman Baker announced.
