Nissan is planning to build two fully electric vehicles at its Canton, Mississippi plant, starting in 2025, the company revealed Thursday. One will be a Nissan-brand vehicle, the other the first U.S.-market market electric vehicle for Infiniti.

Nissan has engaged in crisis talks with EV-maker Fisker that could see the Japanese brand gain access to the failing Californian brand’s Alaska all-electric ute. But they could see Nissan plough as much as $US400 million ($A610m) into the EV start-up. If it does it would make sense for the ute-mad for the Australian market.

Nissan on Monday revealed a roadmap that will pivot the automaker back toward hybrids and plug-in hybrids for the U.S., EVs set to be built around then in Mississippi will incorporate that strategy. Nissan previously said that it also plans for 40% of its U.S. Nissan e-Power U.S. sales by 2030 to be fully electric.
