The biggest obstacle for those who would prefer an alternative has been lack of purchasable plug-in electric vehicles since 2003 when auto manufacturers ceased production of plug-in EVs like the GM EV1, Honda EV Plus, and Toyota RAV4-EV. Only lockable garages or similar buildings will qualify as homebases and power stations for the MINI E.
