General Motors and its joint ventures delivered an August record 293,537 vehicles in China—up 18% year-over-year. The Cadillac, Buick, Chevrolet and Baojun brands reached all-time highs for the month. Buick deliveries in August rose 23% on an annual basis to 94,188 units, led by the Excelle GT sedan.

General Motors and its joint ventures delivered a record 3,870,587 vehicles in China in 2016, which was an increase of 7.1% For comparison, GM brands reported retail sales in the US of 2,446,582 vehicles for CY 2016. Buick posted record sales, supported by popular products like the Excelle GT sedan and Envision SUV.

General Motors and its joint ventures set new marks for unit sales in China in the month of June and for the first half of the year. As a comparison, in the US GM sold 195,380 units in June, up 10.7% Sales in June rose 23.2% on an annual basis to 176,486 units. For the first half, sales were up 48.5% from the same period in 2009.

By comparison, GM sales in the US were 1,420,346 units for the first six months of the year and 264,843 units in June. To date, two manufacturers — Tesla and General Motors — saw the tax credit phaseout completely. The credit is not available for Tesla vehicles acquired after December 31, 2019 and General Motors EV purchased after March 31, 2020. Hyundai Motor will offer a suite of American-made electric vehicles to U.S. market demands.
