The Middle East becomes the world’s second-largest gas consumer by 2020 and third-largest oil consumer by 2030, redefining its role in global energy markets. Low-carbon energy sources (renewables and nuclear) meet around 40% of the growth in primary energy demand. Africa today is home to nearly half of the 1.3
Hydrogen Economy Outlook , a new and independent global study from research firm BloombergNEF (BNEF), finds that clean hydrogen could be deployed in the decades to come to cut up to 34% of global greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuels and industry at a manageable cost. Abatement cost with hydrogen at $1/kg (7.4/MMBtu).
Steel is responsible for around 7% of man-made greenhouse gas emissions every year and is one of the world’s most polluting industries. Converting a significant portion of the fleet to hydrogen would require more DRI plants and more electric furnaces. This would be a major shift in the type of furnaces and fuels used to produce steel.
