The sleek two-door packages two electric motors into a suitably opulent body dripping with Rolls-Royce touches, from the bold gleaming grille adorned with the spirt of ecstasy flying lady to enormous wheels and rear-hinged doors. It may sound gimmicky, but it works (Bentley uses the same tech) and makes for an incredible audio experience.

It certainly looks the goods – you’d easily mistake it for a Bentley – and it’s got power to burn, but will it be impressive enough to snatch buyers away from the other players in this niche, but growing, segment? The GV70 has two motors, one on each axle, and a 77.4kWh battery pack. Each motor makes 160kW and 350Nm.

Aston Martin Valhalla – AMG V8 engine heavily tweaked by Aston Martin topped off with two electric motors. Audi RS models – performance flagships set to pick up plug-in hybrid tech as early as 2021.
