At present, 17 of the 27 EU Member States levy CO 2 -related taxes on passenger cars, and 15 governments provide tax incentives for electrically chargeable vehicles, according to the newly published European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) Tax Guide 2010. New to the list is Belgium.

Westport AB, a Westport Fuel Systems company, announced that Volvo Car will introduce the Bi-Fuel version of its new V90 station wagon in Belgium and Luxembourg. Belgium currently has 5,400 natural gas vehicles on the road and a developed infrastructure network that includes 73 CNG stations.

The Volvo C40 Recharge pure electric will start at an MSRP of $58,750 in the United States before tax credits. Vehicle production will begin in Ghent, Belgium this fall with the first US customer deliveries planned for the fourth quarter of 2021.

Following the United Kingdom, Denmark, Germany and Belgium, Norway is the 5 th European country to start selling the fuel cell sedan. The program offers many incentives that will make fuel cell cars even more attractive: these cars are exempt from registration taxes and value added tax, which can be very high in the country.

In 2009, biodiesel production decreased in a number of EU Member States, including Germany, Greece and the UK, but expanded in other countries such as Austria, Belgium, Finland, Italy, Netherlands, Poland and Spain, which last year took the place of Italy as the third largest EU biodiesel producer, behind Germany and France.
