Sales of Volvo Cars´ Recharge models of fully electric and plug-in hybrid cars increased by 31% in January year-on-year, accounting for 40.7% The increase was led by markets such as the UK, Italy and Belgium. Recharge sales, which in addition to fully electric cars also includes plug-in hybrids, accounted for 59.8%

Volvo Cars is tripling electric car manufacturing capacity at its plant in Ghent, Belgium as it prepares to meet fast growing demand for its Recharge line-up of chargeable cars. UK-based Elektromotive has appointed The PluginCompany to install networks of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across Belgium and Luxembourg. So what’s in store for its plug-in hybrids in the interim? While in Brussels, Belgium to drive the 2022 Volvo C40 Recharge I was given a first look—and some first drive time—at the 2022 Volvo XC60 Recharge T8 plug-in hybrid. Volvo has said that it will make only electric cars by 2030.

De Lijn, the public transport operator (PTO) in the Flemish part of Belgium, is ordering 44 new articulated plug-in e-hybrid buses; further, the operator confirmed the upgrade of 280 if its current hybrid buses into e-hybrids. De Lijn introduced its first hybrid buses in its fleet in 2009, and currently operates 530 hybrid buses.

The share of Volvo Cars’ Recharge line-up of chargeable Volvo models doubled in the first four months, from 7% to 14%, compared with the same period last year. In Europe, the e-vehicle market is almost equally divided between battery-electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid cars. Between 2010 and 2017, the highest numbers of electric buses in Europe were registered in the United Kingdom (~200), the Netherlands (~175), Belgium (~140), Germany (~90) and Austria (~75).
