After years of speculation and prototype testing, BYD finally confirmed earlier this year that its first electric pickup will be called the Shark. BYD officially launched the Shark , a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) electric pickup, in Mexico in May. kWh battery, the Shark gets up to 62 mi (100 km) all-electric NEDC range.

Following the launch of BYD’s first pickup, the Shark PHEV, Toyota is testing an all-electric Hilux BEV model. Toyota is preparing to produce its first electric pickup in Thailand by the end of next year. Toyota has been teasing an all-electric version for some time. is always our biggest issue.

BYD’s cheapest electric car, the Seagull, was the top-selling car in China last month, with nearly 41,000 models sold. The company sold a record over 373,000 new energy vehicles (including PHEVs) in August. Of them, 148,470 were all-electric. It’s roughly the same in Mexico at 358,800 pesos, or around $19,000.

In addition, the brand will remain committed to vehicles powered with compressed natural gas (CNG) as well as internal combustion engines. Built on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform, the new EV will feature a range of 500 km (311 miles).

After declaring a “liberation battle” on gas-powered cars earlier this year, BYD’s aggressive price cuts are making it hard for legacy automakers to compete. BYD also recently launched its first electric MPV in Indonesia. With passenger car imports surging 184%, BYD led the charge.
