Volkswagen’s first two production battery-electric vehicles debut at Frankfurt

Volkswagen marked its serious entry into the battery-electric vehicle market with the introduction in Frankfurt of its first two series production EVs: the e-up! The electric motor’s power is transferred to the front wheels via a single-speed gearbox. Volkswagen itself developed all of the components, including the battery.
