No other minivan has ever come close to this rating. (As In addition, the EPA gave the all-new minivan a rating of 10 in its Green Vehicle Guide. This marks the first time a minivan has achieved a 10—the highest possible rating—in this category. The MSRP of the non-hybrid Pacifica minivan is $28,595.

Designed specifically for a lithium-ion battery-powered chassis, Nissan LEAF is a medium-size hatchback that comfortably seats five adults and has a range of 100 miles on a city drive cycle (LA4). Projects include: $70 million to Chrysler to develop, validate and deploy 220 plug-in hybrid electric pickups and minivans.

What they got wrong was assuming that all of those vehicles would run on battery power alone, with gasoline-electric hybrid technology bound for the technological scrap heap. PHEV sales are up 85 percent year-over-year, dwarfing the 12-percent gain for pure EVs. Automakers got one thing right: Electrified cars are the future.

In an interview Monday, Mr. Ghosn said Nissan decided to accelerate development of battery-powered vehicles because of high gasoline prices and environmental concerns, not just because of the need to meet stricter fuel-economy standards. PHEV 's may not have arrived , but they are definitely on the horizon.

Thankfully, since parts of the powertrain in the Circuit are also used in other Chrysler ENVI vehicles - like the all-electric USPS minivan that was unveiled earlier today - work that is done on one model can be applied to others.
