With two Electric cars, at the time a Nissan Lean and Mitsubishi Outlander, we use a considerable amount of electricity but not much petrol, so already we were a reasonable way down the less CO2 road. Having an EV you learn about the basics of electric power, charge rates and kilowatt-hours or KWh. . So much for power.

Nonetheless, hydrogen fuel cell cars are, like pure battery powered cars, classed as Zero Emission Vehicles (ZEV). Why not simply use the electricity directly to charge electric cars via the already available distribution network – the electricity grid? So why haven’t FCEV becoming as prolific as other electric cars?

The new plug-in hybrid EV version of the Ford Ranger will come in at least four grades, providing hope pricing might be more affordable than first expected. But the multi-model line-up means the Ranger might get closer on price to the BYD Shark plug-in hybrid, which soon launches in Australia with a starting price expected close to $70,000.
