GM Europe staged the world premieres of the Opel Ampera, the European cousin of the Chevrolet Volt, and the Chevrolet Spark mini-car, at the Geneva Motor Show. The Ampera is an extended range electric vehicle based on the Voltec technology used in the Chevrolet Volt. Chevrolet Spark. Opel Ampera.

General Motors and LG Group will jointly design and engineer future electric vehicles, expanding a relationship built on LG’s work as the battery cell supplier for the Chevrolet Volt and Opel Ampera extended-range EVs. For LG, the arrangement represents a widening of its portfolio as an automotive solution provider.

Plug-in hybrids differ from hybrids on the road today in that they can go longer distances on battery power and can be recharged via electrical outlets. These vehicles are expected to range in price from about $40,000 to more than $100,000. GM calls the Volt an extended-range electric vehicle, or EREV.
