Starting this year, thousands of battery-powered electric drive Volkswagen vehicles capable of both loading and offloading current—bidirectional charging, as industry calls it—have been rolling off production lines in eastern Germany. Volkswagen's current ID models with 77 kWh battery option now come ready for bidirectional charging.

If you build a car as a "kit car" with no real factory, then yes, it will never be an economic success. Additionally, I had a close frind out in California that just about creamed in his pants when he was able to lease one. Toyota Prius modders have already been adding larger batteries so the vehicle can run on battery power.
