Nissan provided a list of the top 15 markets in the US for the Nissan LEAF battery-electric vehicle. Another three are on the West Coast and in Hawaii: Seattle (4), Portland (5), and Honolulu (6). The US Department of Energy delivered more than $47 million in funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for eight projects to further smart grid demonstration projects in seven states. The $47 million in new Recovery Act awards will support existing projects that are advancing demonstration-scale smart grid technologies.

Integrated at US Hybrid’s Honolulu facility, the 25-passenger shuttle bus utilizes a 30 kW fuel cell fueled by a 20 kg hydrogen storage and delivery system. The fuel cell and 28 kWh lithium-ion battery pack power the vehicle’s 200 kW powertrain, air conditioning, and auxiliary systems.

Better Place has started its initial deployment of EV infrastructure in Hawaii, with the launch of a project to incorporate its electric-vehicle infrastructure in Honolulu, in partnership with Kyo-ya Hotels & Resorts’ Sheraton Waikiki Resort and Hawaiian Electric Company. Kyo-ya will operate two of the electric vehicles.
