This is in part due to the collapse of the Italian and French markets, on which small cars are heavily reliant for sales—in 2019, 38% of A and B segment registrations in Europe occurred in Italy and France. As expected, all segments across Europe were impacted negatively by mandatory lockdowns. Some models performed better than others.

EVs make a lot of sense for commercial fleets with reduced fuel and maintenance costs and batteries that can be sized to a specific route to eliminate range anxiety. They are now considering electric hybrid (HEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV), battery electric (BEV) and soon hydrogen electric (FCEV) vehicles.

Cheapest is a 2011 version with 48,800km, but the owner admits battery health is close to 50 per cent, its dash shows a range of 90km and real world range is closer to 68km. But there are some. The First Plug-in Battery Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Goes on Sale This week Honda announced pricing for the CR-V e:FCEV, which is scheduled to go on sale in California (only) next month. In a first-ever technology pairing, Honda has mated plug-in battery electric and hydrogen fuel cell electric in the all-new 2025 CR-V e:FCEV.

Similarly, 22 percent expressed interest in a battery electric vehicle (BEV), but only 5 percent bought one. Arguments over how much range is needed are contentious.
