Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE), a subsidiary of Constellation Energy, has launched a multiyear plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) demonstration project using GridPoint’s smart charging software ( earlier post ). BGE will also evaluate the impact a PHEV fleet has on the company’s carbon footprint.

UPS is deploying 40 new medium-duty series hydraulic hybrid vehicles (HHVs): 20 in Baltimore and 20 in Atlanta. Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott signed a bill on Monday that ensures the city’s fleet of government vehicles will be all-electric by 2030. Maryland’s announcement in March, along with Baltimore’s on December 4, both featured all-electric vehicles from Ford, as the Mustang Mach-E seems to be the centerpiece of each.

The US Department of Transportation (DOT) is awarding $100 million in Economic Recovery Act funding to 43 transit agencies for projects to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions from both vehicles and facilities. The Federal Transit Administration reviewed more than $2 billion in applications for these funds.
