The MCTC was opened in Yorkshire last year by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge alongside HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince of Bahrain, as part of McLaren’s ambitious plans to increase the rate of innovation of its lightweight carbon fiber chassis that are at the heart of all its cars.

Toyota Racing scored a one-two finish (#8 taking first, #7 second) from pole position in the Six Hours of Silverstone with its new TS040 HYBRIDs ( earlier post ) in a the first race of the 2014 FIA World Endurance Championship season. Both Toyota cars pitted for new tires, the #7 taking wets and the #8 taking hybrid intermediates.

At the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) next week, China-based GAC Motor will unveil three new vehicles: a new SUV, a hybrid crossover concept car, and an elecric vehicle developed internally. GAC is the only Chinese automaker to exhibit at the 2017 NAIAS and is also the first Chinese automaker to present on the main show floor.

Bahrain’s sovereign wealth fund, Mumtalakat, has assumed full control of McLaren Group, manufacturer of high-end sportscars and majority owner of the McLaren F1 team, BBC reported. The company faced financial challenges during the Covid-19 pandemic, leading to production halts and job losses.

The American automaker is growing in key regions, including the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. The sales surge is thanks to “Ford’s extensive and freshest portfolio of vehicles,” the company said. Ford said it’s currently the fastest-growing auto brand in Saudi Arabia.

The company has been rooted in racing since it built the M1 back in the mid-1960s before spinning out as a standalone passenger vehicle manufacturer in 2010. However, that lineup has consisted almost entirely of combustion vehicles, apart from the hybrid V6 Artura , which debuted in 2020.
