The US Department of Energy (DOE), through its Advanced Vehicle Testing Activity ( AVTA ) at Idaho National Laboratory (INL), has completed 1 million miles of plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) testing. The AVTA’s testing of PHEVs demonstrates PHEV concepts in real-world usage by using fleet and public drivers. Model Battery.

The project will deploy 502 alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles through 119 public and private fleets throughout the state. The project will result in expanded availability of alternative fuels with 17 new CNG and E85 fueling stations and 63 electric vehicle charging stations. Total DOE award: $15,000,000.

Gasoline/diesel fueling stations to replenish the liquid fuel for these engines are readily available. The impetus for this change came from a study by the US Idaho National Lab [ 2 ]. All we really need in addition to fleets of new paradigm vehicles are additional solar and wind generation sources.
