The US government’s General Services Administration (GSA) this summer took delivery of the first of more than 5,600 hybrid vehicles ordered earlier this year, and will make the vehicles—almost all of which are Ford Fusion hybrids—available to various federal agencies under GSA lease agreements as they are delivered.

The Toyota Prius has come a long way since it debuted 22 years ago, as the second hybrid car to be sold in the United States (after the first generation Honda Insight). Look for a full Road Test review soon on Clean Fleet Report. Wireless phone charging is standard on the XLE and Limited grades, but not available on the LE.

Under the program, it is possible for a family that meets income guidelines to receive as much as $12,000 toward the purchase of an electric car. Consumers can choose to replace their vehicle with a more fuel efficient conventional gasoline-powered car, a conventional hybrid, a plug-in hybrid or an electric car.

These "gliders" were originally built to be either ICE or electric. They are NOT conversions, but were designed to be electric from the beginning. Toyota has made these cars for fleet use since 1996, and there are several cars with well over 100,000 miles on them that are going strong - on the original battery packs.
