With emissions regulations encouraging automakers to pivot toward tiny engines and all-electric vehicles, some have likewise expressed a renewed interest in synthetic fuels. But the concept isn’t exactly a new one, leading many to question how sustainable it actually is. Interest declined as oil production ramped up.

Proponents believe such a car could be easily refuelled with hydrogen and assumed it would have greater range than a pure all-electric car. Little seems developed in any wide commercial sense and certainly not to the extent of the pure electric car. It is important to realize that a fuel cell car is actually an electric car.

The new F800 Style is a five-seat upper-range sedan featuring an all-new multi drive platform suited for a hydrogen fuel cell electric drive with a range of almost 600 kilometers (373 miles) as well as the a plug-in hybrid drive with a 30 km (19 mile) all-electric range. This applies in particular to the electric drive with fuel cell.
