Compared with 2005 levels, the potential for improving the fuel economy of all vehicle types within the 2030 time frame ranges from 30% to 50%. Internationally co-ordinated programmes involving governments and automobile manufacturers will help trigger a faster development and uptake of new technologies in the 2020 time frame and beyond.
